Celebs Who Brilliantly Fooled Us All With Fake Accents

When it comes to Hollywood, there are some actors and actresses who can master the gestures, mannerisms and accents of others. Film school graduates, acting school drop-outs and improv class prodigies have all made their way onto this list of celebs who had us all thinking they were who they really aren’t.

Margot Robbie

The Australian actress had us all believe that she was actually from New York when she played the wife of the “Wolf of Wall Street”. The truth is that she is actually Australian! You can check out “Say Goodbye to Christopher Robin” if you want to see her master a British accent.

Daniel Craig

Being James Bond means that you’re suave, that you demand shaken not stirred, and that you’re a Brit. But this Bond star has played the role of a South African (see “Munich”) and most recently, an American southerner. Craig pulls off the impressive accent in his latest film, “Lucky Logan”.

Katherine Zeta Jones

Whether you know her from “The Mask of Zorro” or “Chicago”, she has definitely impressed you! For the former, the Welsh-born actress produced an award-winning Spanish accent that had Spanish TV networks asking to interview her in what they thought was her native language. Sometimes film school teaches you these skills and sometimes you’re born with them.

Leonardo Di Caprio

The first thing we can say is that we are almost as thrilled as he is himself that he eventually won an Oscar! His South African accent only enhanced his breath-taking performance in “Blood Diamond” in 2006. Born in California, who would have thought that he would be able to put on such a difficult accent.

She is the master of the British accent! Wait a second, she IS British. Let’s try that again with “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” and “Regression” where Watson played an American in both. There is no doubt that she is one of the greatest products of film school of our day.

Christoph Waltz

The infamous SS-Standartenführer Hans Landa from “Inglorious Basterds” does indeed speak more than one language. In the World War II film he spoke in English, German, French and Italian. Not only did he speak perfectly, but he also mastered the accents for each one. When the movie was dubbed, he did the voice-over for his own character for the German and French versions.

Brad Pitt

“Ariverderchie!” Do you know where this is from? Well, it’s from the same movie as the previous actor – “Inglorious Basterds”. Don’t think that the comical Italian accent put on by Brad Pitt was terrible acting, because it was actually genius. Brad Pitt has successfully put on different accents for other roles like his Irish accent in “Snatch” and his southern accent in “Thelma and Louise”.

Emily Blunt

Although the film school star is British, she has taken on an American accent a number of times. “The Devil Wears Prada” is just one of her famous films, but it was in “Looper” that she played an American and most people think that she nailed it. It wasn’t just any accent, let me add, it was a country accent!

Christian Bale

Personally I loved his role in “The Dark Knight” but he really did it in “American Psycho”. His American accent delivered a performance like no other and everyone was talking about it. Although he grew up in the UK, it seems he had no trouble adapting his accent for certain roles. He didn’t need film school when he first appeared on TV for a fabric softener commercial in 1982.

Rose Leslie

Gwen Dawson is the name that brought this star fame on the TV series, “Downtown Abbey”. These days everyone is talking about her for her role in the hit series, “Game Of Thrones”. The biggest shock from this star came, not when she put on an American accent or a Spanish one, or even an Indian one. It was when she revealed her real accent and it was almost too posh for us to believe!

Damien Lewis

Damien Lewis is one of the stars of “Homeland”, but when we watch the show we forget about British Damien and all we see (and hear) is Nicholas Brody and his American accent. Recently he joked that his English accent needed some practicing, but his wife was quick to jump in and say that she would prefer his British accent any day.

It might be that the devil wears Prada, but this American ‘wears’ whatever accent she wants. With all the awards and successes she has piled up, she could easily open her own film school. One of her most impressive works was playing former British prime minister Margaret Thatcher in “The Iron Lady” in 2011.

She might have come from Australia, but her accents could definitely tell us a different story. During a stint on the Ellen Show, Ellen set up the “Pitch Perfect” star to put on different accents so that Ellen could guess them. Between fits of laughter, she successfully put on a South African, Russian and New York accent in less than a minute.

Hugh Laurie

If there were ever a more British man on this planet than David Attenborough, it would have to be Hugh Laurie. However, if you watched “House” then you might have thought twice because of his impressive American accent. While attending an interview about his show, he said that saying the words ‘New York’ was one of the most challenging. He described how he would choose to say other words like, ‘The Big Apple’ or ‘Manhattan’.

Sofía Vergara

It doesn’t matter who you are, because when Sofia Vergara opens her mouth we all love her Colombian accent. It’s not often that we hear her speak in a different accent, but if you feel like a laugh then I suggest listening to her impression of an American in the TV series “Modern Family”. You will fall off your chair laughing when you hear her comedic impression of what an American sounds like.
