Curaçao In A Nutshell

If you’re like most people across the world, there’s a great chance you haven’t even heard of Curaçao! The island is tucked away so neatly in the southern Caribbean Sea that even hurricanes don’t get to it. Sounds too good to be true? It isn’t. This Dutch island (yet just above South America) is not just drop-dead gorgeous and cheap to visit, it is so small that even the local population only numbers at just over 150,000 people! There’s no need to worry however about Curaçao not being developed – the island is dotted with different accommodation options for your choosing.

Curaçao Has Got Something Special

Curaçao tourism proudly boasts having an island where you can do nothing, and where you can do everything! The choice is yours, really. But what kinds of things can you do at this summer-year-round vacation paradise? Shall we start on your belly, or your back if you prefer. With a collection of sparkling white-sanded beaches, you’re set to catch some sun and rest. Would you prefer to be on your feet? In the air? How about cliff diving from the rocks at Knip Beach? Feel like keeping it low key… low low low, underwater low? Enjoy snorkeling and diving in the crystal clear turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea, but be prepared to swim with company – the sea is rich with marine life and they’re dying to see you.

But Wait, There’s More

For those who’d like to keep their feet dry, there are more than enough hiking trails and abseiling spots to get your heart racing. ‘What about culture,’ I hear you asking! The island has some of the most interesting museums in the world. Some of those include the Fortchurch Living Monument which is the oldest church on the island which dates back to 1769, wow! It also has Mikve Israel Emanuel Synagogue, the oldest synagogue still in use in the Western Hemisphere. What about music? The Tumba Music Festival which runs from January 22nd until January 27th is sure to get you shaking your body, but if you miss it don’t worry, the island is always alive with the sound of (bongo drum) music.

Curaçao On A Budget

The first thing you should know is that you don’t need to convert your US dollars if you don’t want to. The locals gladly accept dollars, and best of all, English is one of their official languages, so bargain away. Curaçao offers you 5-star hotels if you’re looking to treat yourself, but they have homely hostels for a stricter budget too. Flights are only a few hours and the cost of a ticket in “winter” is sure to put a smile on your face.

The break you deserve is just a few hundred miles south. It’s a ticket, it’s a plane ride and it’s a decision. Decide that you deserve a vacation, and then decide on Curaçao. You most definitely will not regret it.
