It’s that time of year: your summer highlights are fully faded from months of sunshine and tanning, and you’re ready for an update. While many people choose to go darker while heading into the winter months, not everyone is ready to make the full transition into the darker territory. Luckily, a gorgeous new hair trend is just the solution for this.
The new balayage trend is a smokey gold shade, which celeb hairstylist Cassondra Kaeding has predicted: “smoky gold is going to blow up.” She explains that the color is appropriate for the season while still feeling updated and fresh. She says: “Most people gravitate to cool colors this time of year, but this take on dark blonde is within the comfort zone because it picks up on ash and espresso tones, just with a subtle gold lift at the face frame and ends. The result is soft and blended — and a gloss finish gives it that gorgeous shine.”
Sounds good, right? But you may still be unsure of just what the shade is. Kaeding immediately turns to Natalie Portman as the perfect example of what smoky gold is. Kaeding says: “Natalie’s hair color is naturally light brown, so we gave her a honey balayage highlight. With the depth in her root shade, it created a soft, smoky golden effect.”
She continued to explain: “With a medium brunette root, the blended golden highlight adds warmth but feels deep and autumnal instead of beachy.”
Fellow celebrity colorist Rita Hazan, who is Beyonce’s personal stylisy responsible for her gorgeous gold tresses says that: “Gold is not orange or brassy. It’s a super-soft, dimensional blonde with more of a yellow tinge to it.”
You can also see that Katherine Schwarzenegger has adopted the style, but Kaeding explains that because her base shade is actually dirty blonde, her colorist opted to focus on pale gold around the ends for more dimension.
So what do you think of this new style? Will you be adopting the smoky golden look?
