How much do you love to eat a delicious shawarma? Do you love it as much as that feeling of finding a $100 bill in your winter coat the first time you put it on? No? Then you have no idea what heavenly shawarma is like. Au Za’atar is a Lebanese shawarma restaurant in New York City that has upped the game on shawarma eating. Check out this shnazzy shawarma revolushhhhion!
What Is Shawarma?
I can’t believe we’re actually having this conversation. But for the sake of anyone who hasn’t melted their teeth into Middle-Eastern munching magic, we’ll recap just this once. Shawarma can come in a variety of different meats, like beef, turkey, chicken, veal, lamb… you name it. The meat is put on a spit and then grilled for a good few hours, and in the best cases it can even be cooked overnight. Then, when you’re ready to eat it, the server at the restaurant will shave down tender slices of meat to put into a pita, into a laffa or onto a plate. Whew, I’m glad that we got that off of our plates… well, you know what I mean.
Au Za’atar Is Unique
At every shawarma restaurant you go to, you have to wait patiently (or not) for the server to cut the meat and serve you your pita. At Au Za’atar it’s quite different. There you get your very own shawarma spit. What?! Did I just say that you get your own, personal shawarma spit? Well, yes, that’s precisely what I said. Au Za’atar serves you your very own spit which is filled with delicious, fresh meat. Oh, and before I forget, it comes with a huge serving of fries that are made right there!
Eating For Two Or More
My wife is a sweetheart and I love her to the moon and back, but when we go out she can’t help but nibble on whatever I order. The wonderful thing about Au Za’atar is that you can order a shawarma spit for you on your own, or for a few friends – trust me, it’s big enough! My advice is to share it, because it is one heck of a humongous dish!
It’s Fun And It’s Colorful
What’s more fun than getting all of your sensors indulged in your food? Au Za’atar makes sure that you’re the one making up your pita. You get to put in salads, the sauces, the meat, the chips (yes, try it) and whatever else you want. The meat is flavored with special Middle-Eastern spices and tahini – talk about a combo to die for!
Guys and gals, from the streets of Lebanon in the Middle East, to the tables of New York City, Au Za’atar is reinventing the wheel… the shawarma wheel that is.
